IN-VITRO FERTILIZATION PROGRAMME
The term 'in-vitro fertilization' or 'test-tube baby' is the procedure to fertilize eggs with sperm outside the human body. Thousands of babies have been conceived through IVF, and it continues to offer hope to infertile couples the world over.
Here's a brief description of Adiva's IVF program, step by step. Before we begin the treatment, we conduct extensive counseling sessions. The entire process is explained to you and your husband in detail, so that both of you are mentally and physically prepared for the experience.
You take fertility drugs to help you produce a number of eggs.
Once the eggs are mature, they are retrieved from your body.
The eggs are fertilized outside the womb in a laboratory. The fertilized eggs become embryos within a few days.
The embryos are then placed in your uterus in the hope that one or more will implant and become a successful pregnancy.
Needless to say, throughout the process our trained staff will address
your every concern, be by your side, and lend you emotional support.
In fact, you will find the whole experience quite simple and effortless.

WHAT IS INFERTILITY?
If you've had more than a year of regular sexual relationship without birth control and haven't achieved pregnancy, chances are you are infertile. Infertility, as a lot of people mistakenly believe, is not a woman's problem.
50% of infertility cases result from the male factor.
HOW IS INFERTILITY EXAMINED?
On men, basic blood and urine examination and semen
analysis are conducted first.
On women, investigations such as CBC, FBS, urine routine,
TSH / FSH / LH / Prolactin (Day 2 of the cycle), VDRL, Hepatitis B,
HIV and Blood Group and Rubella IgG levels are done.
Further HSG (Hysterosalpingogram), Tans-Vaginal Ultra Sonogram,
Laproscopic Hysteroscopy, and Laparoscopy are conducted.
HOW IS INFERTILITY TREATED?
Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) or infertility treatments are
intended to increase the number of eggs or sperm, and to bring them together,
thus improving the likelihood of pregnancy.

THE TYPES OF TREATMENTS AVAILABLE AT ADIVA.
OVULATION INDUCTION
Ovulation Induction is a term used to produce more
number and better quality eggs in a woman. Drugs
commonly used are Clomiphene Citrate, HMG, purified
and recombinant FSH.
Clomiphene Citrate is used from day 3 to day 7 of
the cycle. Progesterone supplementation is provided
from the day after IVI procedure. If IUI (Intra Uterine
Insemination) is planned, Clomiphene Citrate will
be prescribed (plus HMG if needed). From day 10,
follicular study will start. When the dominant follicular
size is 18 to 20 mm, an injection is given to release
the egg which is evident in the scan. IUI is done
36 hours after the injection progesterone.
IUI
A procedure where the husband's or donor semen
is prepared and introduced into the uterus by
a special catheter.
IVF & ET
An option for patients with
Tubal disease
Male factor infertility
Failure of IUI
Unexplained infertility
PROCEDURE
In an agonist cycle down regulation using GnRh
will be started on day 21 of the previous phase
of the treatment cycle.
Controlled ovarian hyper stimulation is done so
that more follicles are recruited by drugs in order to
produce more follicles which in turn improves the
pregnancy rate.
Monitoring the follicular growth with Trans-Vaginal
Scan is done followed by injection of HCG,
36 hours before egg collection, for maturation of eggs.
Ovum pick up is done. This is a day care procedure
in which eggs are collected under USG guidance.
Fertilization is the next step.
The husband's sperm and the collected eggs are
put together in a culture medium for embryo to form.
Embryo transfer: 3-4 embryos replaced in the uterine
cavity under USG guidance, 48 hours after egg
collection. Success rate N 35-40% per cycle.
ADVANCED TREATMENT OPTIONS
Advanced treatment options are offered if the doctors
feel it is essential. These include:
These are offered if the patient has
Obstructive Azoospermia & severe Oligospermia
Previous IVF Failure
Unexplained infertility
Sperms are recovered from ejaculation or collected by
TESE (Testicular Sperm Extraction)
MESA (Microsurgical Epididymal Sperm Aspiration)
PESA (Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration)
PROCEDURE
A single sperm is injected directly into
the cytoplasm of the egg by micro-puncture of
the egg shell. Fertilization rate is 60-70% and
pregnancy rate is 40%. Then the embryo is replaced
in a procedure similar to IVF/ ET.
CRYOPRESERVATION
Usually in IVF/ ICSI cycles more embryos are
produced but only 3-4 are transferred into the uterus.
The other embryos are frozen and can be used
at a later date if the cycle fails.
ASSISTED HATCHING
Hatching of the blastocyst from the egg shell is required for implantation. In assisted hatching the egg shell is artificially thinned / opened with laser or acid tyrode solution. It improves the implantation rate.
